Privacy policy
1.What we collect
- Account details: your email address, display name and, if you sign up with a password, a secure hash of it (never the password itself). If you sign in with Google or Discord, we receive your name, email and profile picture from them.
- Reading activity: your library, reading progress, ratings, comments, requests, votes, mistake reports and notifications.
- Purchases: what you bought, when, and the payment status. Card details go straight to Stripe; we never see or store them.
- Settings: your language, theme, reader preferences and whether you turned on 19+ novels.
- Technical data: our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and browser type, for security and troubleshooting. For copyright notices we keep a one-way scrambled form of the sender's IP address to stop abuse, not the address itself.
2.Why we use it
- To run your account and remember what you read and unlocked.
- To process purchases, credit coins and pay translators.
- To send notifications you asked for, and account emails such as password resets.
- To keep the site safe: prevent fraud and abuse, enforce our rules and answer legal requests.
- To understand which novels are read, using counts that don't identify you, so we can choose what to translate next.
3.Cookies
We use cookies and similar storage for things the site needs: keeping you signed in, remembering your language and theme, remembering a closed announcement, remembering your cookie choice, and holding an invite code until you sign up. These don't need your consent. We would only set optional cookies, such as analytics, if you choose "Allow all" in the cookie banner, and you can change your mind any time with "Cookie settings" in the footer. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
4.Who helps us
We share data only with services that help run Storyhaven, and only what each one needs:
- Vercel hosts the site.
- Neon stores our database.
- Cloudflare stores cover images.
- Stripe handles payments.
- Resend sends our emails.
- Google and Discord, if you choose to sign in with them.
5.What others can see
Your display name appears next to your comments and requests. Translators see the reports you send them. Your email, library, purchases and reading history are private.
6.How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is open. When you delete your account we remove your personal details, except records we must keep for accounting, tax or legal reasons, such as payment records.
7.Your choices and rights
You can change your details and notification settings in Settings. There you can also download a copy of your data and delete your account; deleting removes your profile and activity, and keeps only payment records without your name or email. To correct your data, or for anything else, use the help center. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights, including complaining to your data protection authority.
8.Children
Storyhaven isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has given us data, contact us and we'll delete it.
9.Transfers
Our service providers may store and process data in other countries, including the United States. Where the law requires, we rely on safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
10.Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll say so on the site before it takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
